March 16th is World Sleep Day! 5 Tips for Faster & Better Sleep

The World Sleep Day Committee has designated March 16 as "World Sleep Day", a time that "aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders" (World Sleep Day). The Sleepy Cottage would like to celebrate World Sleep Day by sharing 5 tips for faster and better sleep.

  • 1. Chilipad

  • The Chilipad is a thin sheet which fits under your regular bed sheet and circulates water throughout itself. Temperature can be modulated for either hot or cold preferences, and can be regulated throughout multiple zones on your bed space.

  • 5. Visual Overwriting

  • This technique involves writing down whatever is on your mind right before bedtime. Also, whatever tasks that you did not accomplish in the day time, and must pick up in the morning are best to leave alone before bedtime. Write down what work you have left to do, and complete the task the next day after a good night's sleep.

  • 6. Slight Visual Stimulation

  • It is recommended that a short dose of visual stimulation, such as playing Tetris for only ten minutes, or watching one episode of a television show can be beneficial in lulling one to sleep. Keep in mind that it is best to have low screen brightness and short duration.
