March 16th is World Sleep Day! 5 Tips for Faster & Better Sleep

The World Sleep Day Committee has designated March 16 as "World Sleep Day", a time that "aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders" (World Sleep Day). The Sleepy Cottage would like to celebrate World Sleep Day by sharing 5 tips for faster and better sleep.

  • 1. Chilipad

  • The Chilipad is a thin sheet which fits under your regular bed sheet and circulates water throughout itself. Temperature can be modulated for either hot or cold preferences, and can be regulated throughout multiple zones on your bed space.

  • 2. Hanging Upside Down

  • Hanging upside down before bedtime, on either an inversion table or a floor spine stretcher, such as the LYNX or TEETER, can elongate and decompress the spine, allowing for better flow, relaxation, and quicker, more effective sleep.

  • 3. Sleep Mask & Earplugs

  • Satin masks that have no roughness, and which can go over the ears (instead of on top of the ears) can drastically improve the duration of falling asleep and overall sleep quality. Earplugs in congruence with a sleep mask provide even greater sensory deprivation. The Sleepy Cottage sells 100% satin sleep masks, and soft, silicone earplugs for ultimate comfortability while sleeping.

  • 4. Yogi Soothing Caramel Bedtime Tea

  • Active ingredients, like, Chamomile Flower, Skullcap, and L-Theanine promote relaxation, and calm the body and mind for better sleep.

  • Yogi tea can be found here.

  • 5. Visual Overwriting

  • This technique involves writing down whatever is on your mind right before bedtime. Also, whatever tasks that you did not accomplish in the day time, and must pick up in the morning are best to leave alone before bedtime. Write down what work you have left to do, and complete the task the next day after a good night's sleep.

  • 6. Slight Visual Stimulation

  • It is recommended that a short dose of visual stimulation, such as playing Tetris for only ten minutes, or watching one episode of a television show can be beneficial in lulling one to sleep. Keep in mind that it is best to have low screen brightness and short duration.

Happy World Sleep Day! The Sleepy Cottage supports you and the quest for a perfect night's sleep.
